Dunsfold to Dundee Dash Off to a Flying Start in Sheffield

Today marks an important day in the delivery of the British economy’s commitment to Net Zero carbon emissions.  In preparation for the United Nation’s COP26 Summit scheduled for November this year, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has signalled the acceleration of the Government’s phasing out of diesel and petrol cars to 2035; 5 years earlier than first targeted.

The announcement refocuses the need for Government at all levels, in collaboration with industry, to ensure the infrastructure is in place in a timely manner, to confirm the ability for the grid and power supplies to meet the growing demand for clean energy to charge the exponential growth in EVs.

Today also marks the commencement of AFC Energy’s “Dunsfold to Dundee Dash” – a 500 mile roadshow across the UK with live demonstrations of our hydrogen fuelled EV charger, to prospective clients and partners.  This morning, we had over 60 attendees to the first roadshow event held at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham, generously hosted by Harworth Group.  It was a fantastic turn out from industry and government with clear signals that the network continues to afford a number of challenges to rapid EV charging deployment in the local area.  The fuel cell seamlessly charged multiple cars on site including the new Tesla and Jaguar IPace, further demonstrating its potential as a partner technology in any EV charging infrastructure roll out.  With 24 hours preparation time, we saw the charging unit  fully operational, highlighting its portability and speed of installation.  The AFC Energy presentation was followed by an important presentation on Sheffield City Region’s Energy Strategy which clearly seeks to build on the local interest and growth potential for the hydrogen economy in Sheffield.

We are operating in exciting times and with hydrogen the buzz word of the moment, AFC Energy is well placed to commence capitalising on new and emerging opportunities in this space!
